FACTORIO
last updated 17.07.26
Factorio is a game about building a factory from nothing with the goal of launching a rocket. With the DLC your objective is to colonize a total of 5 planets with the goal of flying out of the alien solar system.
This game is known to be very addicting, at every given moment you have an objective, being expanding your resource collection, fighting the alien natives or making better designs!
Its designed in a way that designing a perfect base is impossible, so there is always room to improvement and trying different solutions.
FYI I have like 1600 hours on it.
If you really look into it, Factorio is a very well designed 'propaganda' about pollution and exploitation, not because it says that pollution is bad, but because it ties the message on the mechanics. More pollution means more attacks, you may take the friendlier approach and reduce pollution and increase the efficiency until the pollution cloud is manageable, or you can take the militaristic approach and nuke every alien life on expansion's way. Either way I see most of the community at least joking that the Engineer is the villain.
Lore
You are an engineer, sent to analize an alien solar system.
"despite the unusual amount of hostile life, each planet has abundant resources.
With a good defence system, it can be very usefull."
But before you could send the findinds, your communication is cut, along with your navigation system.
Before you can do anything to solve, your ship is caught by an asteroid.
With your last resources you try to change your trajectory to the nearest planet: Nauvis.

Your ship saved you from the heat and impact of the entrance, but its now irreparable. You have no way of contacting your home planet, you are all alone on the alien planet, full of resources, but full of hostile life.
If you want to return home you will have to do it by your self. To exit this solar system you will have to build your own way.
For this you will have to find the secrets of nuclear energy, metalurgy, bioengeneering, electromagnetism and cryogeny, and colonize the five planets of this solar system, along with building the logistic network of space ships. With nothing besides the resources below your feet and the ingenuity within.

The music
WIP*
Each planet has its own aesthetics and mechanics, this is excellently exemplified by their soundtrack. Made by Daniel James Taylor and Petr Wajsar, both of witch seen to have NO internet presence aside of this game. Daniel worked on the original soundtrack and Petr worked on the space age.
Nauvis music exemplify your isolation on an unknown world, even after discovering the locals and expanding the machinery, you are still alone and stranded. It has a melancholic edge no other planet have.
The harsh electric sound the labs make oppose the birds singing on the trees next to them, and the pressure of war against the bitters evolution is contrasted with the serenity of the melody.
The game take a turn when you start launching rockets, and your attention shifts from the ground to the sky, inside the remote view, in this stage you need to manage a new production chain with irregular resource arrival. The best way of describing the music of the space is "Puzzle music", the kind that plays on Portal while the solution is clearly there but you can't grasp it.
